In order to illuminate the large, windowless room in an appealing manner, a completely new type of ‘light ceiling’ was designed. As a result, the interior of the museum is steeped in a mysterious light that draws the individual objects in the illuminated display cases into the focus of the attention of the visitor.

The twelve columns, whose presence is an architectural necessity, have been drawn into the design both optically as well as in terms of the museum’s concept. A type of display case specially designed for these columns has been fitted around each column and can be rotated a full 180°. Consequently, it is theoretically feasible to reposition each case at any time. Thus, it is possible to create a flexible museum space allowing the interior to be given an entirely different appearance.
