Approximately 300 objects from the collection provide a representative cross-section through the history of personal hygiene and beauty care – starting from the highly developed culture of Ancient Egypt and continuing up to modern times. For this, the presentation is subdivided into six subject areas: Skin Care and Personal Hygiene, Decorative Cosmetics, Fragrance and Perfume, Hairdressing Profession, Beards and Shaving, Hair.

Initially, only the outlines of the exhibits can be made out through the translucent glass of the display cases. The rather austere manner of presentation aims at emphasising the special qualities of each individual object. The conceptual clarity underpinning the exhibition thereby attains expression in the architecture, the subdivision into six subject areas and the presentation of the individual exhibits. Illuminated rings on the columns, whose colours have been confined to those of the spectrum, further assist the visitor in finding his or her bearings. Each subject area has been assigned a colour of its own.
